Every week, there are interesting genealogy workshops, classes, conferences, webinars, and events to attend. Some of them might be going in near where you live! Here are a few that will be happening soon.
Ancestry.com LIVE has two webinars scheduled for this week. One is called “Genealogy Brainstorming: I’m Stuck. Now What?”. It will take place on October 9, 2012, from 1:00 in the afternoon until 2:00 in the afternoon, EDT.
The other one is called “How To Up Your Genealogy Game”. It will happen on October 11, 2012, starting at 1:00 in the afternoon, and ending at 2:00 in the afternoon EDT. You must RSVP if you want to attend either of these webinars.
On October 13, 2012, there will be a free genealogy event at the California State Archives, which is located in Sacramento, California. It is the Fourteenth Annual Family History Day. It will begin at 8:30 in the morning and end at 4:30 in the afternoon.
You can “Discover Ancestral Gold” in one of 24 beginner and basic level genealogy sessions. Take a class in the State Archives Presentation lab, or take a tour of the “vault”. There will be exhibitors, handouts, and more. Attendance is free, and parking is free, too.
On October 16, 2012, the Newton Public Library, which is located in Newton, Massachusetts, will host a presentation called “Murder and Mayhem in Harvey County”. It will be presented by Darren McMannis, who is a member of many genealogical associations. The topics are pulled from the headlines of newspapers from the past. It will begin at 7:00 in the evening.
On October 25 and 26, 2012, The Genealogy Event will take place in New York City. It costs just $15.00 per day admission, (which is much less expensive than most genealogy conferences). The event takes place from noon until 7:00 in the evening at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Find information about general genealogy and methodology, and African-American, Irish, Italian, and Jewish heritage.
On October 27, the Three Valley Museum, which is located in Durant, Oklahoma, will host the first ever “Ghost Stories at Highland”. This is presented in conjunction with the Bryan County Genealogy Library. It will begin at 7:00 in the evening at the Highland Cemetery. Small groups of actors, in period costumes, will tell the stories of some of the people who are buried in the cemetery.
