Angelina Jolie Voight was born on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles, California, the only daughter of actor, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. She is of Czech and English descent on her father’s side and French-Canadian and Iroquois on her mother’s side; hence her exotic and striking good looks. From the age of eleven, she attended the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and later the Beverly Hills High School. She enrolled at the film school of New York University, but did not complete her studies.
Her first starring role came in the 1995 film, “Hackers”. In 1998, she became a major success with her performance in the television film, “Gia”, which was the true story of super model Gia Caranji who died of AIDS. She won a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Satmifie awards, and was nominated for an Emmy. In 1999, she co-starred with Denzel Washington in “The Bone Collector” and won an Oscar for “Girl, Interrupted”. Her first blockbuster role came in the 2001 video-game-based film, “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.” Some of her films have been box office flops, such as “Life or Something Like It” and “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow”, although she received good reviews. Today she is one of the most “in demand actresses,” and following the success of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” she is commanding (and getting) as much as 15 million per picture!
Estranged from her actor father, Angelina changed her name to Angelina Jolie, dropping the Voight in 2004. She has been married twice, once to British actor, Johnny Lee Miller and once to Billy Bob Thornton. She has stated publicly that she is bisexual and is currently pregnant with Brad Pitt’s child, confirming that she is certainly something sexual!
Angelina Jolie has done a lot of humanitarian work with refugees and has been a Goodwill Ambassador for The United Nations High Commission for Refugees since 2001. On October 12, 2005, Jolie was awarded the “Global Humanitarian Award” by the UNA-USA. She was also one of the first celebrities to accept an invitation to be one of the bearers of the Olympic Torch during the 2004 Olympic Games.
Angelina Jolie, a winner in many ways. Keep up the good work!
