Are We Nearing the End?

Today is really THE super Tuesday to beat out all other super Tuesdays. Today is the last day of the Democratic primaries. Primaries today are being held in Montana and South Dakota and this is the end. . .we think.

Under Pressure

The Clinton campaign is under increasing pressure to cede the nomination to Barack Obama. Yet she hasn’t. Personally, I think her campaign strategist is brilliant. If she is to win the nomination (McCain says to “never count a Clinton out.”) she now has a story of fighting for her nomination that will carry her well into the general elections. I think regardless what happens, her tenacity in this race will only serve her in the future of her political career. Besides that, I think the Democratic side of me likes to see an actual election.

An Interesting Move

However, many are wondering if she isn’t admitting defeat already. Tonight, to wrap up her primary campaign trail, she’s giving a speech in New York. Several staffers that were on the ground in Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Montana and elsewhere were invited to tonight’s event but were also “told that they could go home and await further instructions.” While top staff in the Clinton campaign point out that no staff cuts are planned. . .the move has many wondering.

First of all, generally what you do on the last and possibly most important night of your campaign trail. . .is stay on the actual campaign trail. (Remember–those superdelegates are still superdelegates until they decide otherwise.) Secondly, you normally send your top campaign spokespeople (as in Chelsea and Bill) out on that campaign trail. Yet what Hillary has done is arranged for her family to be home, in New York, where she’s still a Senator.

It’s either brilliance, or a sign of defeat. Either way, we will be at least one day closer to knowing who the nominees are for President by the end of today. . .I think.
