Are You a Scrapbooking Show-Off?

Maybe it’s because I am constantly searching for inspiration, or perhaps I have better things in life to worry about, but I am not the type of person, who gets my undies in a knot, when a fellow scrapper wants to show off her latest and greatest layouts.

Last weekend I witnessed an ugly scene at my local scrapbook shop which reinforced my philosophy that a little humility can go a long way. A shop regular was paging through the display albums on the “Theme of the Month” table when two other women waltzed by and started commenting on the sample scrapbooks.

June’s theme of the month is travel, so the display table featured several different scrapbooks made with new travel-related embellishments, paper and tools. Apparently, the sample albums neglected to impress the two friends, and they didn’t resist the urge to express their disappointment.

And by disappointment I mean stupidity.

Upon seeing the display layouts, one of the ladies whipped out her smartphone and proceeded to do something very dumb. She scrolled through photos taken of her own scrapbook page designs and loudly exalted their superiority to the display’s albums.

The woman actually had photos of framed copies of her favorite layouts on her phone, as well as a bulletin board embellished with ribbons she’d been awarded for her page designs.

While I am all for highlighting your best layouts within the confines of your home or inner scrapbooking circle, I’m not sure bragging about them in the middle of a scrapbook supply store is a wise decision.

If you have favorite layouts or scrapbook-related awards you want to show-off, I would suggest doing so in your craft room. Consider making a large bulletin board to display photos of your best work. Or, purchase 12-inch by 12-inch frames and create a row of framed layouts to decorate your scrapbooking space.
