Are You a Stroller Mom?

Stroller Fitness classes are more than just a few moms getting together on the way to walk their children to school. In fact, they are appearing all over the fitness landscape from the high-end fitness centers to the local community centers.

Stroller fitness classes combine squats for toning your glutes and thighs and power walking along with entertaining their babies and toddlers inside of their strollers as they stride their way into fitness.

The stroller mom can start out with stretches to the fun tune of head, shoulders, knees and toes that will generate applause from their toddlers and put a smile on their own faces. They can do their fast paced walking to their ABCs and they can pick up the pace to the chugging of the Little Engine that Could.

Laughter, Grins and Squeals

Whether the stroller mom is striding through a park, a mall or along the sidewalks of their suburban neighborhoods. They pause at intervals to bend, stretch, squat and lift. They stride with a strong, even pace, lengthening their stride and enjoying the beauty of the day and their partners, the other stroller moms who stride along.

In some areas, there are interval stations where they can pause to perform plies and other exercises in order to strength train while their heart rates are still up from walking with the strollers. In other areas, they carry along the music and dance while they walk, picking up the beat and their pace – generating a fat burning walk from hitting their target heart rate and maintaining it.

In still others, it’s not so much about the physical exercise, but the social benefits of spending time with their child and other mothers and the fitness is the by-product of their work. Because stroller moms can go anywhere, they just need to change their location to change the style and the type of their exercise. They are not limited by the weather, because they can take it indoors to the mall. They are limited only as far as their imagination – and even that is hardly a limitation because with other stroller moms and fitness stroller instructors – they have the benefits of two or more heads are better than one.

So tell me, are you a stroller mom?
