Art Class Adventures Part III

My son was having so much fun painting at his two to four year old’s art class, that when I asked him if he wanted to use scissors, he told me no thanks. After he finished his second easel painting, he wanted to paint with the long bamboo extended paint brushes on the large (three or four tall and six to seven feet wide) paper canvas. This time he used yellow. As soon as the child using the blue moved on to something else, my son put down the yellow and picked up the blue. He painted contently using this very long paint brushes with a single color for a good ten minutes. However, there were several children waiting in line, so I coaxed him to move on to something else. Once again, he chose another painting station: the black card stock with fluorescent tempera paints, which was right next to the bamboo paintbrush station. He did two black cardstock paintings while keeping his eye on the bamboo and primary color painting station. As soon as the red was free he hopped up to on the large canvas again (sadly this was one of the pieces that could not be taken home because nearly all the children painted on it and there was no way to know who did what). Once he was satisfied with his red painting contribution, he moved on to a new station the involved water, a chalk board, and letter and shape cut outs. Basically the children could put the shapes into the water which made the letter or shapes stick to the chalkboard (until of course they dried at which point they would fall off). My son seemed to find this concept fascinating and starting dipping and sticking. After a few shapes, he decided to dump all the letters and shapes into the water to make the process faster … I guess.
