Every scrapbooker should have a basic tool kit where they store all the essential supplies that they need for a scrapbooking session. However, the types and brands of the items that fill the kit, will be different for every single scrapbooker. Here are what a typical basic tool kit contains and what to keep them in.
First, you need to figure out what you want to put your items in. Many scrapbookers use a tackle box or utility box, however I prefer some type of clear container. This allows you to see inside so you know exactly what you have. Any of these options works perfectly, and are portable so they can go anywhere with you.
Now, what do you put inside?
Scissors – This is an essential tool, and all scrapbooker’s need a good pair of straight edge scissors.
A Scrapbooking Pen – Another must for several different reasons. A good pen will allow you to journal, make notes, and record information on the back of the photograph. This can be any color you choose, yet blue or black are the most versatile.
Adhesive – I usually recommend having both a liquid glue, as well as photo tabs or photo tape. Having several of these at one time ensures you won’t run out during a scrapbooking marathon session.
A Craft Knife – Once upon a time I would have told you this wasn’t as important, but a good craft knife has all sorts of uses including opening packaging, getting into very difficult areas for cutting, etc.
A Cutter – This doesn’t always fit inside your container, but a good straight edge trimmer should be stored somewhere nearby. This tool is essential to straight cuts and will be a handy tool to have.
A Ruler – My trimmer has a ruler built in, so I don’t have a separate one in my tool kit, but if you don’t have a ruler built in, you will definitely want to have one for making measurements, drawing straight lines and helpful stamp placement.
A Corner Rounder – Not an essential, but its in my kit. I use a corner rounder a lot, because I like the way it looks on some of my pages.
So there you have it. If you put all these into one container, you will have your basic scrapbooking kit and you will be able to scrapbook anytime the creativity bug bites.
