Baby Boom

“Baby Boom” is a 1987 film featuring Diane Keaton. Keaton plays a rigorous powerhouse executive. She lives for her work and has no other ties. She eats, sleeps, and dreams of the office. Her character, JC Wiatt, has no time for anyone or anything except herself and work.

Just as she is about to become a partner, she receives a shocking inheritance. She inherits baby Elizabeth. She has rarely ever spoken to a baby much less knows how to care for one. She has no interest in raising this child and decides to call an adoption agency for help.

In the meantime her life is falling apart trying to juggle work and a child. However, the more time that they spend together the more she realizes that she is bonding with little Elizabeth. When the adoption agency finds a couple, she is not ready to give her up.

Wiatt and the baby move to Vermont in a house that unknowingly needs lots of work. Money is tight and everything seems to be going wrong. Wiatt begins trying to do her own repairs on the house and even resorts to growing and making some of her own food.

On a tight budget, Wiatt makes homemade applesauce for Elizabeth. She loves it. Wiatt decides to begin selling it at a local store. When the baby food seems to also be a hit with others, she decides to market it big. Wiatt once again becomes a success but this time she has someone to share it with.

During all of these happenings, Wiatt is becoming close and falling for Dr. Cooper played by Sam Shepard.

This movie is a good movie for everyone. It depicts how even the hardest and busiest of people can be caught and mesmerized by the love and affection of another.
