Basic Anniversary Scrapping

My parents will celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary next week. They have accumulated more memories in those four decades than I could ever fit into a single scrapbook. I marvel at the scrappers who attempt to create memory books for couples celebrating 50, 60, 70 years of marriage. To me the task is would be overwhelming.

However, that shouldn’t deter you from creating anniversary albums. After all, it’s not every day that you try to chronicle multiple decades of a shared life. My advice when creating an anniversary scrapbook, especially if you are a beginner, is to keep it basic and build from there.

Even if the couple has only been married for a few years there should be plenty of material for you to use in the scrapbook. For example:

*Current photos of the couple

*Photos of the couple while they were dating

*Wedding photos

*Honeymoon photos

*Memorabilia from the wedding, including, but not limited to a list of the wedding guests, a copy of the wedding program, pressed flowers from the bride’s bouquet

In order to embellish the scrapbook, consider journaling on certain pages. If you know how the couple first met and fell in love, then share some of the anecdotes via journaling on layouts that feature photos that were taken while they were dating.

Another option is to enlist the help of other people who know the couple well. They can help provide memorabilia and photos that can be added to layouts. The people who don’t have photos to share could pen letters sharing personal memories of the couple or simply wishing them well on the next 50 years of marriage.

Finally, quotes are always a nice touch to add to basic anniversary scrapbooks. Marriage quotes can be found in books, online and in magazines. Some popular marriage quotes include:

“There are three things that last: faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love.” –I Corinthians 13:13

“The highest happiness on earth is marriage.” –William Lyon Phelps

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” –Mignon McLaughlin
