Before You Say “I Do”, Consider Getting Wedding Insurance

wedding cake How long did you take to plan your wedding? After spending more than a year making countless decisions, and spending a lot of money, the last thing you want to have happen is for something to go completely wrong on your big day. In those cases, wedding insurance can help.

Wedding insurance is a somewhat new form of insurance. It is designed to protect your investment in case something related to your wedding goes terribly wrong. Think for a moment about all the costs that are involved with a wedding. Wedding dresses can be extremely expensive. The cake is going to cost more than a typical store bought birthday cake will. It’s going to cost something to rent the hall that the reception will take place in. You are going to have to pay the caterer, and the photographer, and the DJ or band that plays music at the reception. The groom’s tuxedo, even though it is rented, and not bought, is another expense. Wedding insurance can cover at least some of your costs, in case things do not go as expected.

Just to clarify, wedding insurance is not something to purchase as a way to ensure that the “happily ever after” that you imagined, will actually occur. Wedding insurance can not be used to change the mind of a “runaway bride” or groom. It also isn’t the same as divorce insurance, which is used to protect you from financial risk in case you and your spouse get a divorce. No, wedding insurance isn’t about your relationship at all. Instead, it is something that can help protect your financial investment in case the companies you hired fail to provide the service that paid them to do at your wedding.

Wedding insurance covers many of the nightmare scenarios that can happen at a wedding. The caterer you hired doesn’t show up. The photographer lost the photos he took. The store that you purchased your wedding gown from had a fire, and your dress was inside, waiting for alterations to be made. The vendor you paid to supply flowers for the wedding went bankrupt. Wedding insurance can help you recover whatever deposits you made for these services.

If you have a concern that your wedding may be postponed, you might want to get wedding insurance. It can help in case your wedding gets postponed due to bad weather, (like an epic snowstorm, for example). Sometimes, the bride, or the groom, will become injured or severely ill right before the wedding is supposed to take place. You also might need wedding insurance to protect your financial investment if the bride or the groom are in the military, and are at risk for having their approved leave cancelled.
