Being Thankful for Your Spouse

turkey I think we’ve all heard friends or family members make critical comments about their spouses, and I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of that ourselves. Sometimes it’s easy to fall in the trap of fault-finding when life gets stressful and things aren’t going our way. But as we contemplate our blessings at this time of year, I’d like to encourage each of us to spend some time thinking about the wonderful qualities our spouses possess that make us thankful we have them in our lives.

Right now, I’m particularly thankful for my husband’s thoughtfulness. I had a little outpatient procedure done yesterday and am not really feeling on top of my game right now. He called me from work to check on me, and volunteered to come home early to take care of me. We decided to save his time off for something that might be more important, but the fact that he was willing to ask means the world to me.

Most often, it’s not the big, huge things our spouses do that stick out in our memories. I’m sure we all appreciate the gifts and the vacations we receive as surprises, but I’m willing to wager that if we were to make a list of the most romantic things our spouse has ever done for us, they will be the smaller, more simple things that showed they were thinking of us. I’ll never forget the morning when my husband was out early and stopped off at McDonald’s to get me breakfast because he was thinking of me and wanted to do something make my day nice.

If we take the time to pay attention, I think we’ll find that our spouse does something every day that is truly thoughtful. Maybe he shovels the snow out from behind your car so you can drive it more easily. Maybe she gets up a little early to make you breakfast before you meet with that important client. These are things we might even take for granted, but they are things that show we hold a special place in their hearts.
This year, I’m thankful for my husband. How about you?
