Bible Stories to Share with Your Children: Adam and Eve

The story of Adam and Eve, their temptation and the fall of man, is found in the Bible from Genesis 2:15 through Gensis 3:24. The story of Adam and Eve continues on past the end of the third chapter of Genesis; however, I want to focus on the first part of their story. The account of Adam and Eve can easily be taught on different levels depending on the age of your children.

Key Lessons

1. God gave a commandment which Adam and Eve were required to follow. There are commandments which must be followed today. Ephesians 6:1 states: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.” However, it is important to note that children are not only to obey their parents, but also the Lord. In John 14:15 Jesus says, “If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.”

2. Disobedience brings punishment and sin separates man from God. Adam and Eve each received a punishment including being banished from the garden. Isaiah 59:2 affirms this thought: “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God.”

3. The first prophesy of Christ. Genesis 3:15 states: “and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” In this statement from God to the serpent God states that Christ will be born of woman and that He will “bruise” Satan’s head.

4. God cares. After making man God said, in Genesis 2:18, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.” Ultimately God’s love and care for us are shown through the sending of His Son to die for us. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Many other meaningful lessons can be learned through the study of these scriptures such as lessons about Satan, temptation, and marriage.
