BIKE CLOTHING – For the Serious Rider

If you love to ride, then just as you would choose the right handlebars, the right saddle, and the right peddles, you also want to choose the right clothing. Bike clothing is made specifically to make the biker’s ride more enjoyable. In addition to providing you from the elements such as wind, rain, or snow, bike clothing provides your muscles with needed support, helps transfer moisture away from the body, and allows you to ride at the best body temperature.

There is nothing worse than riding in clothes that rub. The result is constant irritation and eventually miserable blisters. Instead, you can choose bike clothing made to fit. Although you will pay more for these clothes, you will be glad you did. The goal is to find a manufacturer that produces high quality clothing. You will likely need to find the best clothing through trial and error. However, if you have friends that ride, you might get some suggestions on what they like best and go from there.

What you want to look for is proper fit, quality construction, and a wicking type fabric. Some of the best manufactures today include Canari, Pearl Izumi, and Cannondale. Take bike shorts for an example. Of all garments, you want to buy the best you can afford. Since you will be sitting while riding and working the legs, proper fit, and padding is essential. Although each biker has his or her personal preference, we see most people choose tighter fitting clothes.

Now, if you like to mountain bike, wearing baggier shorts are often a better choice. In this case, you would have less scrapes and scratches should you fall. No matter if you choose tight fitting or loose fitting, go with synthetic fibers. These shorts are durable and made from the moisture-wicking fabric you want. Put proper fit on the top of the list and then fabric, padding, style, and design.
