Black Friday Started Early This Year

turkey Can’t wait for the Black Friday sales? Neither can many retail stores. Some are so anxious to have crowds of shoppers visit them that they have started their Black Friday sales today, on Thanksgiving. I cannot help but wonder if this early start will become the new way to do Black Friday sales. Here is a quick overview of what stores started early, on Thanksgiving 2010.

According to the Huffington Post a few of the major retailers started their Black Friday deals early last Thanksgiving as well. I think this has the potential to make some shoppers anxious. You end up choosing between spending time with family, or shopping for deals you might not get on Black Friday. The stores that started early may have caused you to change your carefully made plans about how to get the best deals on Black Friday.

Which stores started early? Sears was open from 7:00 in the morning to noon on Thanksgiving, 2010. This is the first time that Sears has ever done this. Toys R Us opened at 10 in the morning today, the earliest that this retailer has ever been open on Thanksgiving. Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Gap all opened around 8:00 this morning. Those stores have never been open on Thanksgiving day before, either.

Kmart opened at 6:00 in the morning today, and is going to remain open for business until 9:00 in the evening tonight. Walmart has decided to stay open for 24 hours today, and most Walmart stores will be open until midnight tonight. Even if you missed the earlier sales that the other stores had this Thanksgiving, you may be able to find a little time to run to Kmart or Walmart, the stores with the widest range of hours today. If you like, you could shop Kmart right after your Thanksgiving dinner is over, then shop at Walmart until midnight, and then get in line at Kohl’s, which opens at 3:00 in the morning on Black Friday.
