Book Review: Scrapbook Workspace by Memory Makers

Recently, a friend of mine gave me the best birthday present: scrapbooking supplies! A scrapbooker’s dream right? Well, at least it is for me. I love to receive a gift card to a craft store, or a set of supplies. This friend is not an avid scrapbooker like myself, so it was nice to see what she bought me. She did a really good job. She got me papers, die cuts, stickers, rub-ons and even a book by Memory Makers called, How to Organize Your Scrapbook Workspace.

In the scrapbooking world, it is important to be organized. How else can we get anything done? If you can’t find what you need when you need it, then your scrapbook pages may be lacking. As I have blogged about before, everyone has a different idea of how their space should be organized, and it is all up to YOU! This book did tend to push products that are a little more on the expensive side, but one thing I did love about this book was all the pictures of other people’s scrapbook spaces. Don’t you just love looking at someone else’s space? Well, I do! It helps to inspire me to get even more organized, or change things up a bit.

Here are a few highlights from this book that I thought were helpful:

1. Before getting organized, create a floor plan for you space. This book offers step-by-step instructions on how to sketch, measure, and get everything to scale to create the perfect scrapbooking space.

2. Get rid of unwanted supplies. How often do we go through our space and get rid of the stuff we don’t need? For me, it is almost never. They give tips on what to do with those unwanted materials.

3. Flea Market Shopping List. I loved how it tells you exactly what to pick up at your local flea market to create the perfect space.

4. Swap spaces for a day with someone. What a great idea! Just sitting in someone else’s scrapbook space might make me crazy, but it also might open my eyes to something I need in my space!

Overall, this book is helpful for any scrapper. If you are already an organized scrapper, it might help you find that one idea you’ve been looking for to store your scissors, or whatever. If you are just overwhelmed, and don’t know where to start, this is probably the perfect book for you! If you are on a budget, or can splurge on storage, you will find helpful ideas in this book. However, for $19.99 it might be worth picking up at your local scrapbooking store, reading the chapter you need, and then putting it back! However, with the way our scrapbook spaces are always evolving, hanging onto this one might not be a bad idea because there is an idea in there for everyone!
