Brittany Murphy Ties The Knot

Turns out the rumors are true. Several media outlets were abuzz Saturday when actress Brittany Murphy showed up at Kentucky Derby sporting a huge rock on her left hand. However, the star refused to confirm that she had indeed tied the knot with Simon Monjack, the British director who worked with her on her latest project.

Now, the 29-year-old is spilling the beans. According to PEOPLE magazine, the couple got married at their L.A. home several weeks ago in what Murphy’s rep calls “a very intimate ceremony that was officiated by a rabbi and witnessed by their families.”

Frankly, I can’t believe that Murphy is finally a married woman. And, I say finally, not because of her age (she’s still a pup in my book), but because of her history of past engagements. Prior to meeting Monjack, Murphy had been engaged twice before. First, in 2004 to her talent agent, and then last year to a crew member she met on a movie set. She ended up breaking off both of those engagements, and apparently decided to forgo the engagement with Monjack and dive right into marriage.

Well, perhaps, that’s not exactly how it went down, because according to PEOPLE, Murphy and Monjack visited celebrity jeweler Neil Lane about two weeks ago to pick out engagement rings. That’s right, not one ring, but two.

“They couldn’t decide on one, so they got them both,” Lane tells PEOPLE. “Simon told me: ‘You know, you only live once.’ He did it with a lot of love and sentiment. I’ve never had that happen to me before. It’s so romantic.”

I’ve never had that happen to me either. I’m lucky I got one ring. Perhaps, this is what propelled Murphy to go ahead with this marriage. Kidding aside. According to Lane, the actress is now the proud owner of a five-carat platinum ring with a yellow diamond surrounded by white stones AND a six-and-a-half-carat platinum ring with a cushion-cut diamond and diamonds embedded into the band. Oh, and one wedding band.

By the way, what does one do with two engagement rings? Wear one on each hand?

Think Murphy’s ex-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher (her costar in 2003’s “Just Married”) is wondering the same thing?
