Nothing puts the bummer in summer like walking smack into huge back-to-school displays in the middle of July.
We’re not even a month into summer vacation and already our local Target, Wal-Mart and Walgreens have rearranged their floor plans to display huge quantities of back-to-school merchandise. While the fresh pencils, paper and folders are hard to look at, there’s no escaping the fact that the sale prices for early shoppers are hard to beat.
For instance, if you use 3-ring binders to store scrapbook paper, then now is the time to stock up. I saw plain binders on sale for less than a dollar at most stores. Obviously, the binders won’t accommodate traditional 12×12 scrapbook paper; however, it certainly fits smaller paper and a host of stickers and other flat embellishments.
If you are looking to store or transport 12×12 paper, then you are better off splurging on special zippered 3-ring binders that are designed specifically for larger sheets of scrapbook paper. These binders are typically found at scrapbook supply shops or online at ScrapMasters, Scrapbooking Warehouse and Scrapbook Creations.
If you are scrapping on a budget, I would stray from the specialty binders that can cost upwards of $40 and instead stock up on the plain types at back-to-school sales. Traditional binders keep scrapbook supplies flat and wrinkle-free, including smaller paper, die cuts, brads and eyelets. What’s more, because the binders are so cheap right now, it’s an excellent time to purchase in bulk. Having multiple binders allows you to organize paper and embellishments by color or theme. Simply use tabs to label sections in your binder, then you can group coordinated papers and embellishments together and never get flustered trying to find what you need. Just remember not to overcrowd your binder. If you stuff too much into a single 3-ring binder you may damage your paper and embellishments.
