Business Idea – Food Truck

Do you love the thought of having your own business but you are not quite sure how much you would enjoy being isolated at home? If you are in a position where you can spend much of your day outside of the home and you love to cook and interact with people, you could start a mobile food truck business. While a food truck business is not the easiest or the cheapest business out there, it can be a lot of fun and in the right market it can be very successful.

You do not have to live in a big city to have a successful food truck business, either. Imagine this scene: you are traveling on the highway and you notice that it is time to find an exit and fill your gas tank. As you pull off the highway, you think that perhaps you should get something to eat during this stop as well. You get out of your car at the gas station and as you look around to see what you can see for dining options, you see the familiar golden arches. But wait, what is that smell? You look around for the source of the sweet, smoky aroma of barbecue and you see a truck parked on the side of the gas station parking lot with a line of people beside it. After you finish putting gas in your car, you find a parking spot and join the line of people at the barbecue truck. You study the menu and see an array of reasonably priced choices and as you look at the food being served from the window you can see that the portions are substantial. After you order and receive your meal, you sit at a nearby picnic table and savor the tender pulled pork sandwich and crisp, hand-cut fries and you wonder how McDonalds still has any vehicles in their parking lot.

The aforementioned barbecue truck has been in operation for almost two years now in its current location, in my home town in central Vermont. I like to go there whenever I can, because the food is great, the people are friendly, and I like to support local businesses. I am sure that many people, regardless of where they live, can think of at least one or two great little food trucks that they enjoy visiting whenever they can. If you are curious about what it takes to start a food truck business, your first step should be reading the state and local rules pertaining to food trucks carefully to see what is required. Since you will need some money to get your food truck business up and running, be sure to get a business plan in place before you buy any equipment. Owning and operating a successful food truck is not something that will fit into everyone’s lifestyle, but for the right people in the right place at the right time it can be a wonderful opportunity to own your own business and share your culinary talents with others.
