Business Ideas for Cooks and Bakers

Private Chef: If you have an educational background in the culinary arts and would prefer to venture out on your own, think about becoming a personal chef. You can work for as many clients as you can handle. Advertise at businesses, grocery stores and in the newspapers. Many single people and families with two working parents do not have the time to cook. Advertise at hospitals for those who coming home from surgery or after having a baby. Of course you can take on long term and consistent assignments or short term assignments.

Special Diet Chef: Many today are on gluten free or other special diets. Consider that niche and work for clients who need to follow dietary restrictions.

Cooking Lessons: Hold cooking lessons for women’s groups, youth groups, and singles groups at local facilities, churches, hotels, or wherever a kitchen would be available. You can teach cooking to baking and everything in between. Perhaps you can teach at a local college in adjunct position.

Nutrition Expert: If you focused on the nutritional aspects of cooking, perhaps you can teach, write, or speak on nutrition. Use nutrition as a guideline to teach and show how people can cook healthy and eat well.

Event Planning: If cooking for a crowd does not intimidate you then perhaps event planning is for you. As an event planner, I know the importance of having a caterer who is responsible and knows how to please a crowd. You can focus on baking or cooking for large scale events.

Seasonal Baker: If you love to bake but do not have any aspirations of making it a full time business then you may want to consider seasonal baking. You can bake for holidays. You may want to consider baking or cooking for small family events like graduations, communions, and birthdays.
