Celebrating an Anniversary Soon?

Are you celebrating an anniversary soon? Looking for something to make an ideal anniversary gift? Anniversaries are hard for some couples – it can be hard to decide on what to give or to do. Plenty simply enjoy going out to dinner for the evening and seeing a movie and forgoing presents all together – and that’s okay too. The point is to enjoy your anniversary for the two of you.

But if you enjoy giving the gift – and you’re looking for something a little new and original – here’s a few suggestions to mark the celebration of your anniversary. Whether you like the do it yourself approach or the pick it up from the store or the ordering it in – there’s a little something for everyone on this list.

  • Focus on I Love You conversations that day – make it a rule that there will be no talk about home repairs, bills, your back pain or your headaches – skip talking about the issues with the kids if you can help it – focus on talking to each other about dreams, ideas and goals – make it a day that’s all about the two of you
  • Hugs and Kisses – Leave little notes with chocolate kisses for each other – the notes can be redeemable for a home cooked meal, a 5 minute massage or having your hair brushed – pamper each other
  • Hold hands – This is a good one for every day, but you can really emphasize it on your anniversary – if you are in the same location, hold hands or touch whenever you are talking. Emphasize your intimacy
  • Create an Anniversary Dedication Web Page – Fill it with your favorite photographs, memory notes and stories – make it password protected and private and you can fill it with a bit of sensuality – invite your spouse to visit on the anniversary
  • Go Out to Dinner – Take each other out to your favorite restaurant – splurge a little and see if you can leave the kids with grandparents or a relative for the night. Try a fondue restaurant were you can cook your own food right there at the table and feed each other while holding hands
  • Dress It Up For the Occasion – Dress really nicely that day – set out to wow your spouse with your looks, your conversation and your actions
  • Jewelry – Jewelry is a popular gift – try choosing a charm for a charm bracelet or if she doesn’t have one, get a charm bracelet made for her – add a charm for an event in each year you’ve been married
  • Tune in to a Love Song Station – Call in a dedication for your spouse and listen to the radio that night – dance together to the music and give them their gift when the radio plays your dedication
  • Go Back to High School Together – Make a soundtrack of your years together – give them a burned CD or a tape with music that makes you think of your spouse and you together
  • Watch the Sunset or conversely if you’ve been out all night, make a point to watch the sunrise together
  • Dedicate at Star to them – there are plenty of places where you can sponsor a start and have it named after your spouse – if you have a telescope – spend an evening out looking at the stars together – slowing life down and concentrating on one another

The best thing about an anniversary is it marks the day when the two of you chose to commit yourselves to each other and to the idea of ‘us’. There’s a lot you can do together on this day and you can make it as special and as intimate as you like. By the way, if the two of you enjoy sports – there’s nothing wrong with going out to a game, playing a round of billiards or whatever else you choose to do or to give – after all – it’s your anniversary!

What did you do on your last anniversary?
