Celebrity Parents Share Family Milestones

He may play a doctor on TV, but actor Omar Epps says, don’t look for him to pull any medical moves on his pregnant wife. Epps, better known as Dr. Eric Foreman on TV’s “House,” recently announced that his wife Keisha Spivey is pregnant with their second child. The couple is already proud parents of 3-year-old daughter K’mari Mae.

A new inductee into the celebrity dad’s club is NASCAR driver Jason Leffler. According to news reports, the 31-year-old racecar driver and his wife Alison welcomed a baby boy last week.

The couple named their new son Charlie Dean Leffler in honor of Jason’s father. The newest member of the Leffler clan reportedly weighed in at 6 lbs, 9 oz, and was 20.5 inches long.

Fatherhood doesn’t appear to have slowed Leffler down. Within hours of his son’s birth he was back on the racetrack competing in this weekend’s Carfax 250 at Michigan International Speedway.

Also getting back to business after welcoming a healthy new addition to her family is pro tennis champ Lindsay Davenport. The 31-year-old athlete is back on the courts competing (most recently in the Pilot Pen series in Connecticut) just 10 weeks after she delivered son Jagger Jonathan.

Jagger is Davenport’s first child with husband Jon Leach. The tennis champion recently told reporters that she actually started hitting balls again just two weeks after Jagger was born. In addition to training for a comeback, Davenport says she has been trying to come up with a strategy to juggle her new role as a mom and continue to be a committed wife. While she describes her new role as “stressful at times,” Davenport says she wouldn’t change it for the world.

“It’s been a blast. Being a mother is pretty wild. Anyone who has a child knows that your life changes, your responsibilities change. But I’ve felt my whole life that I’ve wanted to be a mother. It’s a lot of balancing right now between practicing and spending time with him. But it’s going to be really exciting to get back out there again.”

Davenport says while she is back hitting balls around she isn’t going to pressure her son to follow in her footsteps.

She may want to talk to actor Denzel Washington about diverting the interests of celebrity offspring. The actor has done a great job doing so with his son, John David. Instead of making the rounds in Hollywood, the 23-year-old has spent his summer perfecting his football skills with NFL Europa team the Hamburg Sea Devils.

John David (also known as J.D.) was drafted by the St. Louis Rams last May but was later released. Since then the movie star’s son has been developing his skills in Germany.

You’ll recall J.D. made headlines while he attended Morehouse College. While there he set a school-record with 1,198 yards with a 5.6-yard average and nine touchdowns, and added ten receptions for 69 yards his senior year.
