Choosing which Xyron Sticker Maker is right for you

With all of the different Xyron machines to choose from, I thought that I would give a break down on what is available and benefits and drawbacks to each size.

Depending upon the size on Xyron that you choose, there are several types of adhesive backing to choose from. My most used adhesive is the permanent. They also offer removable adhesive in both regular and acid free. I would, of course, recommend the acid free adhesive for all scrapbook pages. Some other fun refills that are available are laminating and adding a magnet backing.

When deciding which size is right for you, consider what you will be using in the machine. If you will be using larger items like 12 X 12 paper, then you will want the 1200. The Xyron 900 (9 inch width) could be the best choice because you can send 8 1/2 X 11 inch paper through. Remember that its not the length but the width that needs to be taken into account. If you just want to make stickers, then the 150, 250, or 500 would be your best choice.

The smallest machine offered by Xyron is the 150. It has a surface width of 1.5 inches. It retails for just under $10, so the price is very affordable. Refills are 20 feet long and can be purchased in permanent or removable adhesive. The only drawback is that the width can be limiting on what you can send through the machine.

The next available size is the Xyron 250. This is one that I own. The surface width is 2.5 inches. This is the machine that I use the most of embellishments. It is the perfect size for almost all die cuts, chipboard shapes, ribbon and tags. This retails for $20.

There is a Xyron 500 ($30) and a Xyron 510 ($50.) They both have a surface width of 5 inches. The 500 only has refill cartridges for sticker making (both permanent and removable.) The 510 is nice because you can also purchase laminating and magnet making cartridges.

The next size is the Xyron 900. With it’s 9 inch width, it is can turn almost any scrapbook sized embellishment into a sticker. This retails for $119, but I have seen it for much less in online stores. You could also use a 40% off coupon at your local craft store. This machine has all types of cartridge refills available. If you can afford it, this would be my first choice because you would be able to put adhesive on the back of almost anything you would place in your scrapbooks.

The largest machine available is the 1200. The width is 12 inches. This retails for $199, but I have seen this one at a nice discount in online stores as well. I own this machine, but rarely use it for 12 inch wide items. I usually use this machine when I have several items to turn into a sticker and then I do them all at the same time. For the money, the 900 would do just as well for scrapbooking unless you are going to send an entire page through the machine and that is not very likely.

Whichever type of Xyron you choose, I?m sure that you will be happy with your purchase!
