Church Callings: Stake Technology Specialist

Stake or Ward Technology Specialists often do not get the credit that they deserve. People who are called to these callings serve in areas where many people do not realize that they are being served. The duties of this calling can vary widely from area to area and ward to ward. It is important to thank these people when you see them.

When we lived in a smaller ward there was no one called to serve in this capacity, so whenever there was an activity that involved audio or video equipment he would often get a call to come out and help. My husband really enjoys keeping up with the latest equipment. He also works in the field and so he can set up a system with little difficulty. However the system in our smaller ward had a lot of problems, since it had been in place for over twenty years. He would spend about an hour preparing for each session of conference. He has helped once or twice when we are visiting as well.

Many people do not realize that someone needs to set out the television sets, hook up the projector and connect everything to the satellite when it is time to watch General Conference at church. Similarly many people do not realize the amount of work that goes into coordinating the computers in a family history library or in the Stake itself. The stake specialist will often help the clerks figure out the different computer programs as well.

This calling is essential in having things run smoothly in many areas of the stake. If you are called to this position the church has a special section on its website designed specifically to help you meet your roles in your calling. Although this calling may not be time intensive all the time, you may find that you serve in spurts. You may spend several hours on your calling one weekend, and then do nothing for a few months.
