Claims Your Insurance Company Likes

smile faces Filing a claim to your insurance company can sometimes be a bit of a hassle. It can make you feel anxious as you wait to see if your claim will be paid for, or denied. Did you know that there are some types of claims that your insurance company actually likes, and wants, you to make? They look favorably upon claims that they know will be paid by someone other than themselves.

Insurance companies put a lot of effort into trying to determine how risky it would be for them to provide insurance coverage for someone. When you apply for a life insurance policy, you are usually required to submit to a physical.

If you apply for an individual health insurance policy, (instead of the group policy that is offered by some employers), you have to go through a more extensive physical. Want to buy auto insurance? You can expect that the insurance company wants to know about your driving history.

The purpose of all this checking and investigating is so the insurance company can avoid having to pay out on a bunch of expensive insurance claims. The less money they spend on claims, the more profit that insurance company can make.

It is not unusual for an insurance company to attempt to find reasons why they will not pay for your claim. Unless, of course, they know that your claim will be paid for by someone other than their company.

One example of the types of claims that insurance companies like involves auto insurance. Do you live in a state that requires all drivers to have car insurance? If so, then it is very likely that everyone’s car insurance comes with a form of liability insurance that is to be used in case an accident occurs.

Some other driver hits your car, and causes damage. You file a claim to your insurance company. They are happy to see this claim, because they know that the other driver’s insurance company will have to pay for it, (and they will not).

Flood insurance claims are another type of claim that insurance companies tend to like. The federal government provides flood insurance to people through the National Flood Insurance Program. You may have purchased your flood insurance through a private insurance company. The claim you file to your insurer about damage that happened to your home due to flood damage gets paid for by the federal government, (and not your insurance company).

Another one that insurance companies like are claims for preventative health care. Part of the Affordable Care Act requires all health insurance companies to cover many types of preventative health care. Insurers like these claims because preventative care could stop someone’s health condition from turning into something big, and expensive, later on.
