Clayton County GA Parents Should Look into Homeschooling

Let’s see if I can get this right… Homeschooling opponents insist that homeschoolers need accreditation for their high school diplomas to count. They tell us that going to a public school or accredited private school is the only proper way to educate a child. Still, as is the case in Clayton County GA, not all public schools students are guaranteed accreditation. Hmmm.

About a month ago, the Clayton County Public School district in Georgia was threatened with loss of accreditation for next school year if it did not clean up its act. The problems have been more board related than academic. This means children are doing fairly well in Clayton County, but the adults can’t seem to get their acts together.

Recent school board meetings have attracted so many parents that police have had to turn many away from the meetings. Few parents did not at least try to attend. Meanwhile in the meetings, instead of addressing the plight of the children who could lose the chance to be accepted to many major, as well as lose their ability to compete for scholarships. No. The meetings were mostly filled with infighting and power plays. The parents are trying to advocate for their kids, but the board members can’t seem to get their acts together.

The most recent word on this issue is that the Clayton County school system will likely lose accreditation at the end of summer. This ruling was due to a unanimous vote by the National Accreditation Commission Board in Chicago. Fifty two thousand, eight hundred students will be affected. In order to avoid accreditation loss, the district must meet nine mandates by September 1.

Many parents are looking to move out of the area and/or put their children in different school. I have no doubt that many will homeschool, at least until this the accreditation problem is cleared up. A homeschool diploma will look better to colleges than a diploma from schools that could not keep their accreditation.
