Cleaning Your Microwave

I don’t like cleaning my stove or refrigerator. But there is another appliance in my home that I dislike cleaning even more…the microwave.

I guess that’s because I don’t have to clean the stove or fridge on a regular basis. However, the microwave gets a lot of use out of it so cleaning is much more frequent.

What I especially don’t like is the awful smell of popcorn inside (even though I love popcorn). But what’s worse is when my children have warmed up cans of Spaghetti O’s. Not only do I want to gag at the smell but the red stuff all over really gets under my skin.

To eliminate odors and clean up those nasty splatters, you need to clean your microwave on a regular basis if it’s used a lot. There are a variety of ways this can be done, with my favorite being to use a lemon.

All you have to do is cut a lemon in half and put both sides of it (cut down side) on a microwave-safe plate. Drop a tablespoon of water onto the plate.

Turn the microwave on for about 2 minutes. This creates a lemony fragrance and makes wiping away easy.

For problem areas, use the handy-dandy toothbrush. It works wonders.

You can also clean the microwave out by filling a microwave-safe bowl with water, along with a drop
or two of dishwashing liquid. Heat for two minutes, and wipe.

Be sure to take out the glass rotating plate before you clean it out, though. Wipe down the top, sides and bottom of the inside of the microwave. But don’t forget to wipe the door and outside as well.

Don’t use anything abrasive on your microwave. A soft wet cloth or paper towels will do the trick.
