College Bound Homeschoolers, Check out the College Board Website

I got this tip from a young lady that recently graduated from public school. I was inquiring at what age she started taking SAT II subject tests which are equivalent AP exams. Because my son is finishing his first high school math course and is starting college in the fall, I wanted him to take the corresponding standardized test to put in his homeschool portfolio which we are beginning to compile for college admissions.

Her advice to me was to go to Collegeboard.com and sign up to get access to test dates and locations. She also informed me that the website would compile all of my son’s test scores and send them to the colleges of his choice when the time came. I went ahead and signed up this morning and found that what she said was true, plus they offer so much more.

While the site is set up to help college bound juniors and seniors prepare for college, it is also useful to help younger students and parents make decisions, and plans for college as well as finding colleges that would be a good match and to locate student aid and scholarships. I also learned on this site that my child can challenge classes by taking exams.

This site is hardly homeschool specific. In fact, it hardly mentions homeschoolers at all, except to say that it provides homeschoolers that same services as it supplies to public school students. The only test not available to homeschoolers is the PSAT/NMSQT which is only available through the school.

I encourage every college bound student to visit and use this site as early as the eighth grade. It is never too early to start thinking about and making plans for college. Collegeboard.com is a great place to start.
