Coming Soon: Weekly Features

As part of my blogging each week I want to have several regular features that I’ll write about on certain days. These are things that I think are relevant to many in the adoption world and are hopefully things that my readers want to see.

Adoption in the News – On Mondays (starting next Monday) I will share with you some of the recent news “buzz” related to adoption. I will try to cover a good mix of information and events from all perspectives of the triad. If you see an article or a story that you think should be covered, feel free to send me a link!

Wednesday’s Child – Most of you are familiar with the “Wednesday’s Child” feature on many news stations. This has been a pretty successful way of finding homes for children. I hope that I’ll be able to sometimes profile specific children for you in hopes that you can help find a home for that child. However, due to increased security guidelines for many photo listings it is difficult to get permission to post about specific children. So, instead every Wednesday I will give you a link to a specific photo listing or charity that helps to place waiting children. I’ll tell you a little bit about the children waiting and about what the charity does to help the waiting children of the world. Maybe your next child will be on one of these listings! If that happens, you’d better tell me about it!

Special Needs Adoption Advocacy – Special needs adoption is very close to my heart because each of my children were considered “special needs” for one reason or another. The truth is that a large majority of children who are waiting to be adopted are considered special needs because of their background, age, race or a medical need. Many potential adoptive parents are worried about adopting a child who fits into this category, but with education they find that they are the perfect family to embrace a child with a certain special need. Each Friday I will talk to you about a common special need and give you information, links and resources in order to make each special need more familiar to you and hopefully more comfortable as well. I hope that as a result my readers will be more open to adopting children who don’t fit the world’s idea of perfect, but who still have so much value and will bring years of joy to their forever family.

I hope you will enjoy these weekly features as much as I’ll enjoy writing them!
