Commonality

What can bring a mechanic, a computer whiz, a public school teacher, and a CEO together? The Lord can bring these people together. What can bring the most popular girl in high school, the smartest boy in high school, and the shyest girl in high school together? The Lord can bring these people together. What can bring an ex-alcoholic, an ex-convict, and an ex-adulterer together? The Lord can bring these people together.

In the world people place themselves in distinct groups. Most groups are based on some sort of commonality between the individuals. Most of the characteristics of these individuals are readily apparent to others in the world. These characteristics can range from things like activities one enjoys to participate in to things like the abilities one possesses. However, the Lord brings all different types of people together, which, from a worldly view, should not be grouped together.

The amazing power of the Lord brings people who would more likely than not, never place themselves in a group together. Christians have a great connection in the Lord. Christians are brothers and sisters, heirs with Christ. When I begin to consider the types of people which have a bond because of the Lord, I am reminded of the song “A Common Love.” This song reminds Christians of their common goal, the common hope, which they have in the Lord.

Christians need to strive to maintain that bond with one another in the Lord. Christians must be careful to not allow the worldly influence of things like cliques to destroy the beautiful bond which the Lord created. I truly believe that one of the many blessings of becoming a Christian is the immediate bond you have with your Christian family. The church should consistently work towards preserving a positive family environment where love prevails and the family members are encouraged and uplifted.
