Cook With Your Kids: Banana Pudding Dessert

If your children are like mine, they LOVE to help mommy in the kitchen. But that can be tough, especially when what you’re making requires a lot of ingredients and steps. Desserts are often a good way to include kids in the kitchen. They love to add ingredients, to mix, to stir, and to pour. Here’s a yummy dessert recipe that your children can help you make. And the best part? It’s quick, it’s simple, and it’s semi-homemade!

For this recipe, you’ll need store-bought banana or vanilla pudding (the small package), 1 ½ Cups Milk, 4 Tablespoons Peanut Butter, 4 bananas, 1 cup Whipped Topping and a dash of cinnamon for each bowl.

Here’s what the kids can do:

To make the pudding, get a big bowl and let your child pour the pudding mixture into it. You can measure out the milk, but let your child pour it in the bowl with the mixture and whisk it around. You’ll need to give it a good final whisk yourself to make sure the lumps are removed. Set aside or place in refrigerator to set up.

Peel the bananas and let your child use a plastic knife to chop them. They may not look perfect, but they’ll taste great just the same!

When you’re ready to assemble the dish (works in bowls or mini-trifle dishes):

Place a layer of pudding at the bottom of each dish. Top with half a banana, the peanut butter, and whipped topping. Then start the final layer with the rest of the pudding, banana and whipped topping. Sprinkle top with cinnamon.

This can be eaten immediately or refrigerated until ready to eat. If you have a child under the age of two, I’d omit the peanut butter for their serving. It can sometimes be difficult to swallow for a young child.
