Cool Green Gadgets

If you want to see what might be in store in the future for your home, you might not need to look any where but the most recent Electrolux Design Lab competition. Here are some of the innovative inventions that won prizes. who knows, you may be seeing these products for your home in a few years.

The top prize in the competition went to a student from Hungary who designed the E-Wash. This is a compact washing machine that uses soap nuts instead of detergent. Soap nuts are a natural product that can be grown and harvested, so it is a renewable product that won’t harm the environment. Soapnuts have been used for centuries by people in Indian and Napal to wash their clothes. This design proves that you don’t need harsh chemicals to function in your day to day life.

The second place prize went to a design student from Paris, France. She designed a Pebble solar food heater. The really interesting thing about this device is that it doesn’t rely on solar panels. Instead, a spray-on solution consisting of solar cells allows almost anything to be turned into a solar powered device. This amazing technology is currently under development and could change the way we use energy in our homes. This device proves that solar energy doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.

In third place was a student from china. He devised a refrigerator called Go Fresh that consists of a main frame and 12 temperature-controlled cells. It looks like a honeycomb. Each cell is individualy controlled. When an individual cell reaches its cold temperature, the cold-air inlet closes, thus saving energy. The individual cells can also be programmed for different food, insuring that food that don’t need a deep freeze won’t hog cooling energy. The individual cells can also be removed, to take along for a picnic, for example. This device proves that standard processes can always be improved.
