Are you wondering what everyone is talking about? What are all those strange words everyone is referring to? I thought that if we were going to talk coupons, then it would be really helpful if I made a Coupon Dictionary. This will help you decipher the Coupon Language. I have also included any abbreviations to the words, in parenthesis.
Binder ~ A notebook where coupons are organized.
Blinkies ~ Blinkie machines are little red boxes that spit out coupons. You can find them attached to the store shelves, with a blinking light, hence the name Blinkie. They are put out by Smart Source, and usually change monthly.
Bonus Boxes ~ Bonus Boxes are little boxes containing coupons that are usually attached to shelves right where the product is placed. These also usually distributed by Smart Source.
Box Tops for Education (BTFE) ~ These are found on various Pillsbury, Betty Crocker and General Mills products and are collected by parents, who then turn them into the schools, who in turn redeem them for cash for school supplies.
Campbell’s Labels for Education (CLFE) ~ These can be found on various Campbell products, and are collected by parents, who then turn them into the schools, who in turn redeem them for school supplies.
Catalina ~ A coupon that spits out of a machine at the register. The cashier hands these to you with your receipt tape. They usually have a red or blue boarder.
Coupon DataBase (CDB ) ~ A searchable list of current coupons, that are entered in by other members. This allows you to find a specific coupon for a product, or a better valued coupon. See the Families.com Coupon database here.
Coupon Train ~ A coupon train is a list of people who mail a packet of coupons from person to person. When you receive your envelope of coupons, you sort through them, take out the coupons that you would like to keep, and add coupons that you don’t want. You then mail this to the next person on the list.
Double Coupons ~ Stores who choose to double the face value of a coupon. Example: .50 coupon will be redeemed for $1.00. Each store is different in how high of a value of coupon they wish to double.
Dumpster Diving (DD) ~ When you go to a dumpster or recycling bin to look for items you can use, like coupons.
Have List (H/L) ~ This is a list, created by a coupon trader, of all the coupons they have, and do not need. This allows other coupon traders to look at the list, and see if there is anything they can use. See the Families.com Have List Directory here.
