Craft Ideas to Make for Pets

You can select from various craft items to make great stuff for your pets. There are many options available to help you create personalized accessories for any household pet. You can also create your own similar items, often for a fraction of the cost.

There are decorator dog food and cat food bowls available, but all you need is clear acrylic bowl in the appropriate size for your pet. Trace the bottom of the bowl onto a piece of fabric and cut it out just inside the lines. Paint, personalize, and decorate however you like and then glue the fabric, face up, to the bottom of the bowl. Craft glue or hot glue will work. Just apply a light bead of glue around the outside edge of the fabric and press into place. Cover with the bottom of the fabric with clean contact paper for protection if desired.

You can also use colored or print paper the same way. Once decorated, just cover both sides of the paper with clear contact paper or other laminating medium to protect it. Glue in place as directed above.

You can also paint pet dishes (outside only) to give your puppy or kitty a custom dish. Be sure materials are safe for pets before use, or try this cute product: Precious Pet Small Bowl. It’s porcelain and you can decorate it any way you like with specially formulated markers (included) that make a lead free, permanent design. It’s reasonably priced too (and it’s currently on sale at Joann.com).

Make your own stand for your pet’s food and water bowls. You’ll need adult help for this one. Pick up a small, low wooden stool (or talk a grown up into helping you build one from craft wood). On the top, center two bowls and trace them. Have an adult cut just inside the lines with a jigsaw. Remove the pieces and sand down the inside edges of the cutouts until smooth. Paint or stain the wood and decorate it with cute designs and your pet’s name.

Make a matching placemat to go below the stand to help prevent messes. Just ask a grown up to purchase a vinyl placemat or a piece of vinyl in a color that matches the stand and then decorate with permanent markers.
