Creating a Dream Board

One of the things I have been working on, in order to encourage and inspire me in my home business is what I call a “Dream Board.” Although my work is with freelance writing, I think any work you do would benefit from a “Dream Board.” You just need to tweak it to suit your type of home business.

I am using a tri-fold display board, the kind you often see in science fairs at schools. But you can create a “Dream Board” using almost anything. A bulletin board, journal or your wall is just some ideas.

The first thing I put up on my “Dream Board” is an article that I read just over a year ago. It was a very inspiring article to me as it was about a woman who found the best of both worlds, being home with her children and yet making money as a writer.

At the time I was working as a preschool teacher but my dream was to become a full-time freelance writer working from home. This article truly inspired me. Inspiring articles, quotes and other things you run across can be a great motivational tool for your “Dream Board.”

I also have on my “Dream Board” the offer letter I received when I first began writing for the web content company that I work for. I started off with one small assignment and now I have worked my way up to an almost full-time position with them. It is so encouraging to look at how far I have come by reminding myself of that first offer letter.

Some people like to save their first paycheck, an award or some other important document that pertains to their home business.

Scattered throughout my board I also have positive comments I have received, most through email. It’s not to toot my own horn; it’s only meant to encourage me when I begin to doubt myself.

And working from home, you don’t always get the same rewards and recognitions that others in the workforce do…so this is my way of giving me a pat on the back.

A “Dream Board” can be whatever you like it to be. Has this inspired you to create one? If so, please share what you would put on your “Dream Board.”
