Creative Sketches Idea Book by Becky Higgins

Do you ever have quite a few of pictures from a particular event that you want to fit onto one scrapbook layout? Sometimes it can be overwhelming just trying to figure out a pleasing way to arrange all of those pictures onto a scrapbook page. In Becky Higgins’ books, Creative Sketches, Volume One and Creative Sketches Volume Two, she shares many great ideas on how to arrange pictures, titles and journaling onto a page in a balanced and pleasing way.

I love to follow sketches on my layouts because it is such a time saver. I can just choose a sketch I want to follow, layout my photos and title according to arrangement on the sketch and spend more of my time creating fun embellishments! Or if I just want to get through a few layouts quickly, this book helps me to organize each layout and then I am ready to move on to the next one.

This book is divided into chapters where each chapter shows layout sketches for a certain number of pictures. For example, Chapter One has sketches for layouts with three to five pictures. The book ends with Chapter Five with sketches for layouts with fifteen or more photos. This final chapter is one of my favorites because I take so many pictures and even after narrowing them down to “just a few” of my favorites, at times I still have fifteen or more pictures.

Each chapter includes several sketches with a finished layout example from the author and then three other examples that were submitted by scrapbookers. The other examples are interesting to look at because they have usually altered Becky’s sketch in some way and that gives the reader even more ideas and options.

The following two layouts I used the Creative Sketches Book to start arranging my photos. By the time I was finished, I had deviated a bit from the original sketch. The great thing about the book is that it gives you a starting point and then you can use your creativity once you get going on the project. Hope you enjoy the layouts!
