Creepy Halloween Treats for Preschoolers

pie

Halloween parties are coming soon to a preschool near you. What yummy goodies can you make so that the little ones will be shrieking in delight? Here are a few old standbys and a couple of oddball ideas.

Spiders of all forms are an excellent choice for Halloween. They’re delicious too, even if you’re not a bird. Make miniature cupcakes and add dark-colored sprinkles to the top. Add legs made out of noodles or little whips of licorice, and add candied eyes. The result is creepy and tasty.

Carve Halloween apples on a stick. Put an apple on a skewer and have an adult or an older child work with a kitchen knife to add eyes, a nose and a mouth to the apple. Then eat. Of course, you can also dip these into whatever candy concoction you wish.

Looking for a serious gross effect? Make finger jello. Add an extra packet of gelatin to Jello and mix grapes into the Jello. Let it set and call it gooey eyeballs. Or mix Jello, cottage cheese, and blueberries together to create brains in a bowl. Yuck!

For an old standby that is always sure to be a hit, whip up some white sugar cookies with Halloween faces. While you’re at it, craft some of the dough into long rolls and press an almond into the end. These are Witch’s Fingers.

For a healthier treat, mix up a batch of pumpkin cookies. Add a little bit of pumpkin pie filling and pie spice in lieu of the liquid in your white sugar cookie recipe, and you’ll have a light and Halloween-style snack! Or you can add a bit of pumpkin pie filling to the icing of a white cake or white sugar cookies as well to add some Halloween flair.
