Dancing for Fitness

As individuals we all feel the need to express ourselves in different ways to allow our creative inner self to be shown to the world. Some people relieve this passion by writing, by their appearance of clothing or hair color, with tattoos or piercing; while others find the outlet of dance to be all they ever need. It can be done alone, with children, or with your partner; that is the beauty of the art of dance. Besides the fact that there is no right or wrong way; no one has to correct your movements, it is fun and great for overall fitness!

Dance can be done anywhere at any time. There are official dance classes in ballet, tap, jazz, or modern style where an individual can attend daily or weekly sessions and spend their time with others who enjoy the art form of dance. The classes can be found at local adult schools or community colleges, as well as dance studios and health clubs. Many times, dance classes are instructed by a dancer who knows the right and wrong ways to hold body positions. If you are worried about being older in age, there are dance courses specifically designed and geared toward the weaknesses and strengths of the diversity of people.

Another way people can dance for fitness is right in the privacy of their home! Turn on some music and do what makes you feel good; no one else needs to know how you slimmed down to a size 6, it can be your little secret. Pop in the new “Black Eyed Peas” CD and begin jumping around to “Let’s Get It Started.” Maybe you like a softer type of music without so much bass pumping like “The Temptations,” whatever your choice, dancing for fitness being done in private allows the music of choice without having to worry about anyone else’s opinion.

If you are worried about motivation to exercise in your own home, with digital cable, there are music stations which can be turned on first thing in the morning when you awake. Also, there are many different programs which focus on dance as exercise and can be found for free through the cable guide. By getting into the habit of turning on music the very first thing before even brushing your teeth, your secret disco baby will begin to tap its feet and within minutes, dancing will occur. Some singing and imitation moves may also happen so make sure the window shades are pulled down as to not have that embarrassing stare when dropping the children off at school.

If there are children in the household, they LOVE dancing! Turn on an Elmo or Dora the Explorer DVD and dance to the music with your child. There are many positives to this:

1)The quality time spent with your children and having fun together,

2)The exercise both the child and parent are getting,

3)The more the child dances and gets excited, the longer their nap!

Dancing is for all ages and any exercise which has lasted throughout centuries and with more styles being created each day; there will never be a lack of dance classes.
