“Dancing with the Stars” News

Okay, maybe I’m a bit out of the loop, but when I heard that current “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Marissa Jaret Winokur (she’s the one who can’t stop smiling) was expecting her first baby in a few months I wondered why in the world she was shaking and shimming on the hit TV show.

Then I found out that a surrogate mother is carrying the baby.

AHA!

So, to set the record straight the 35-year-old Broadway star and her husband, “King of the Hill” writer Judah Miller, are indeed expecting their first child and say they were lucky enough to find a “wonderful surrogate” to carry their pride and joy.

Winokur confirms that the pregnancy is five months along and the surrogate mother is doing great.

The former Hairspray star was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2000 and underwent a hysterectomy so she is unable to carry children on her own.

As for her appearance on the sixth season of the mega-popular ABC show the 35-year-old mom-to-be says she is ecstatic, but she’s saving her real excitement (you mean she can get more hyped than she all ready is?) for her new baby.

“I don’t care if I win or lose Dancing with the Stars because I know when the show is over I will have the best prize – a baby,” Winokur told reporters. “After cancer I never thought I’d have a baby. This is truly the best time of my life.”

I am thrilled for Winokur, but I don’t think she has to worry about winning “Dancing” and missing out on her baby’s birth.

Another season six contestant that I doubt will make it past week four is former tennis superstar Monica Seles.

If you watched the show on Tuesday you couldn’t have missed her tears. To be quite honest she looked like she was in pain out there… like she didn’t care if she never danced another step in her life.

Though, regardless of how far she goes on the show Seles will no doubt use her appearance to promote her new memoir.

The book, which is currently untitled, will be published in 2009 and reportedly will delve into her life as the former queen of tennis, her issues with weight and how she found “balance, strength and happiness” in her life after a “rollercoaster ride of exhilarating accomplishment and sometimes overwhelming tragedy.”

The 34-year-old won nine Grand Slam tournaments and as a teenager was the top-ranked women’s player for three years, in the early 1990s. She also endured a terrifying incident in which a man attending one of her tennis matches in Germany climbed out of the stands and stabbed her in the back with a knife while she was taking a break.

In my opinion Seles should have moved up the publishing date so she could go straight from the dance floor (once she gets the boot) straight to her book tour.
