“Dancing with the Stars” Update

“Dancing with the Stars” contestant Heather Mills laid it on the line yesterday answering the question no one had the guts to ask: “Is there the possibility that her prosthetic leg may come off while she’s competing?”

According to TV’s “Extra,” Paul McCartney’s estranged wife—who had part of her left leg amputated after she was hit by a police motorcycle in 1993—said, “It’s very unlikely my leg is going to fly off, although it would be quite funny. I’ll have a strap on which I wouldn’t normally in every day life.”

She added: “I’m quite happy to be thrown around and hopefully my leg will stay on.”

You’ve got to admire her sense of humor about the subject. Frankly, I wondered the same thing when I first heard she was joining the cast of the popular ABC show. I never thought she would take it upon herself to bring it up in an interview, but then again I suppose not doing would be like trying to ignore an elephant in the room.

During the TV interview Mills giggled as she told the reporter: “I don’t want to let Jonathan (Roberts, her professional dance partner) down or give anyone in the audience a heart attack.” I have to admit when I heard that, I laughed along with her.

Mills also set the record straight on a few other rumors floating around:

First, she is NOT dating Roberts, despite web reports and tabloid rumors to the contrary. Mills says, “He’s a happily married man.”

Second, Mills says she doesn’t plan to reveal too much of her 40-year-old skin in traditional “Dancing with the Stars’” outfits.

Third, Mills willing admits that she has “absolutely no dancing background and with my leg I can’t push it.”

Finally, in other “DWTS” news, according to news reports, Mills’ fellow dancing contestant Vincent Pastore, who played a tough-guy mobster in the early years of “The Sopranos,’ has dropped out of the show after a week of training.

Pastore issued a statement today which read: “I didn’t realize just how physically demanding it would be for me. Unable to put forth my best effort, I felt it appropriate to step aside and give someone else the opportunity.”

Show producers say they hope to announce Pastore’s replacement by the end of the week.

The new season of the ABC show debuts March 19th.
