Deal Or No Deal

Deal? Or No Deal?

That’s really the only question to answer on NBC’s popular game show Deal Or No Deal where contestants play for their chance at one million dollars.

I had actually never heard of the show until a few months ago when they had an open call in my town to be a contestant. Thousands of people showed up for their chance to appear on the show. With that much of a turn out for the casting call I was a little intrigued, and watched a few episodes.

The way the show works is pretty simple.

Models walk out carrying twenty six different suitcases, each with a number on them between one and twenty six. You as a contestant pick one of those cases as “Your Case”.

Inside each case is a dollar amount. The lowest amount in any case is a penny, and the largest amount is one million dollars. Your case will remain closed until the end of the game, so you have no idea what is in it.

In the first round you as a contestant open six cases and determine that those amounts are not in your case.

The “banker” will then call you (or Howie Mandel the host) and offer you an amount of money to leave your case. You have to decide…

Deal or No Deal?

If you choose “No Deal” then you open another five cases, and are given another offer by the banker.

The game continues until you choose “Deal” or you have only your case remaining.

In some cases a contestants case will contain a small amount less than $100 and they’ll walk away with eighty or ninety thousand dollars. In other scenarios people will choose to take a deal, only to discover the amount in their case was higher.

The contestants also bring along a few coaches on the sidelines to help them decide whether on not to take the deal including family members and close friends.

Watching this show can be pretty entertaining. For me, its funny to see how greedy people will get. If someone offered me $100,000 I would take it and walk away with a smile and a handshake. Some people on this show will turn it down though, and minutes later walk away with $50.

If you’ve never seen the show it’s well worth a watch. Catch it on NBC Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights.
