Defining Prosperity

Prosperity is one of my favorite words. In fact, I have it spelled out in little colorful alphabet blocks in a prominent spot in my living room. I love being able to look up from my laptop or reach up to take a book off the shelf and see the colorful word spelled out in block letters: p-r-o-s-p-e-r-i-t-y…

I know that many people think of prosperity as simply meaning that you have lots of money. While I cannot argue that money makes my life a little more comfortable in many ways, the word “prosperity” inspires me in my home business and in other areas of my life because of all the other possibilities the word promises. To me, prosperity means comfort, success and affluence—not in terms of expensive toys and “stuff” but as a lifestyle of abundance and gratitude. When I am able to work at jobs of my choosing and still be available for my kids, I feel like the most prosperous woman on earth!

Knowing that I can continue to build my business is important to me. A few months ago, I realized that instead of feeling trapped and like I just couldn’t figure out where and how to increase my income like I used to feel when I was working at a traditional job, I am actually striving to figure out how to keep from leaving money “on the table” each month. What I mean by this is that I have more work than I can do, I actually turn away work and jobs and instead of wondering how I can make more, I wonder how I can take advantage of the opportunities I currently have. This, to me, is prosperity. Realizing that there is always more and that as long as I keep working at my home business, I will continue to find new ways to expand feels incredibly successful and abundant to me as well.
