Designing Vacation Pages

Now that the holidays are over, snowbirds are taking flight to warmer climates.

It’s January. Tis the season to go on vacation.

Whether you are planning a month-long getaway to the tropics or you only have time to indulge in a weekend escape to the desert, don’t forget to plan for scrapbooking.

Vacations are among the most popular themes for scrapbooking, and you certainly don’t want those special memories to go to waste, so grab your camera and a bag for mementos before you head-off into the sunset.

While you are on the road you can already be brainstorming ways to enhance your page designs. If you are traveling with friends and family, jot down funny things they say so you can add them to journaling blocks. If you are vacationing solo, then turn to popular travel quotes to embellish your layouts. You can find them in books, travel brochures, magazines, and movies. Some popular vacation-related phrases include:

“To travel is to live.”- Hans Christian Andersen

“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” – Unknown

“When in doubt, go on vacation!” – Unknown

“Traveling in the company of those we love is home in motion.” – Leigh Hunt

“A wise man travels to discover himself.” -James Russell Lowell

You can also make up your own quotes, such as “Cape Haka or Bust!” or “Real Men Camp!” Remember, vacation scrapbooks are documentation of your personal journeys, so you should be customizing your pages with whatever inspires you from each place you visit.

Once you select the phrases you want to feature in your travel scrapbook, it’s time to really make them pop. To do so, consider using a gel pen or glitter ink pen to write the quotes along the border of the page. Or, use a phrase as a page title, and then use flocking powder to enhance the letters. You could also place the phrase in an idea bubble above a photo of a family member of friend who uttered it on your trip.
