Detoxing Your Body – Part 2

It’s the end of the year and a lot of people are making resolutions to live a healthier life. Here are a few things you can do to help detox your body:

1. Get a massage. It will help improve your circulation as well as your attitude because it will feel incredible!

2. Quit smoking. Yes, it is hard, yes, you may relapse, but quitting will not only help you, but those around you that are exposed to secondhand smoke. Did you know your body begins healing itself within 20 minutes of quitting?

3. And while we are on bad habits, cut down on alcohol. Some drinking can help your health, mental and physical, but remember that your liver has 500 functions to do aside from filtering alcohol, so give it a break.

4. Read the labels on your makeup and personal care products. It may be a red flag if the product doesn’t list what is in it. Especially avoid chemicals such as phthalates, DEA (diethanolamine), and parabens.

5. Avoid pesticides. They kill bugs and such – how good can they be for you? There are natural ways to rid yourself of pests.

6. While your avoiding chemicals, toss the cleaners for natural products too. Look into the many cleaning uses for baking soda, vinegar, and other products.

7. Toss the bottled water and add a filter to your tap water. It will save you money and still remove impurities from your tap water.

8. Cleanse your body with a detox program. Check with your doctor before using any cleansing program or fasting to make sure you don’t damage your health instead of improving it.

9. Toss the Teflon. While you are at it, toss anything else that emits PFCs (perflourochemicals).

10. Install a carbon monoxide detector in your home. Carbon monoxide can cause headaches or fatigue, but it can also kill you if it goes unnoticed. Since it is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, you need a monitor to detect it.

11. Get rid of household mold. Try a little tea tree oil to wipe down areas such as floors and walls where mold might appear.

I work full-time as a web developer at UTHSC and most of my other time is spent with my son (born 2004). I love everything pop culture, but also enjoy writing about green living (it has opened my eyes to many things!) and health (got to worry about that as you get older!).
