Devotions of Knowledge

Knowledge is a necessity for any Christian. I know without a doubt that studying the Word of God must be an active part of a Christian’s walk in this life. God has given us His Word that we might know Him. And not only has God given us His Word that we might know Him, but that we might know what He has done, what He will do, and what He expects us to do.

It seems like there are a lot of people in the world who say they know about the Word of God. However, if one engages in even a low-level discussion about God’s Word, it becomes apparent that the individual really knows very little. Let us not be like the individual who thinks they know God’s Word, but really does not. The Bible is so incredibly rich with information which the Creator of this world gave us, I think it would take more than a lifetime of study to know everything there is to know about God’s Word and even that much time may not be enough. However, we should always be striving to learn more about the Bible which the Lord blessed the world with.

We need knowledge of the Word of God to serve Him according to His commandments. We need knowledge of the Word of God to know God, to know that He is the everlasting, all-powerful, mighty Ruler of everything. We also need knowledge of the Word of God to tell others in the world about God and what He has done for us. God’s plan of salvation is simple, and every Christian should know it because they must have obeyed the commandments of the Lord to be a Christian. Read my blog “From the Standpoint of the Bible” to consider many other reasons we should have knowledge of the Word of God.

Here are a few scriptures to consider when studying the concept Biblical knowledge:

  • Psalm 119:66: “Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.”
  • Proverbs 1:7: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
  • Proverbs 2:6-8: “For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.”
  • Philippians 1:9-11: “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
