Diary of a Work at Home Mom Part 19

Lately, I have been blessed with quite a bit of work for both of my home based businesses. That is exciting, because like most people out there, I like to get paid. I also enjoy my work and it is good to know that there is plenty to do. It would be untruthful for me to portray that having this good fortune is all sunshine and roses, though.

For the past couple of days, I have been on the road with my almost two year old son. We are accompanying my husband as he does some work – related travel. Anyone who has traveled with a very active toddler who gets excited and wound up when there are changes in the scenery and daily routine can imagine how our days have been. While it is nice to be staying in places where there are housekeeping services, there are also things that make it harder to stick to my work schedule.

A couple of weeks ago I deliberately decided not to plan on doing work during my son’s naps. I am so glad that I made that decision because all of these changes in our location and schedule have certainly gotten in the way of nap time lately. On the other hand, while I am not falling behind because I did not schedule work for that time of day, I can not truthfully say that I am doing just fine without it. It would be nice if I were able to get an hour or more of work done during the day so that I could go to bed a little earlier, or at the very least have the option of going to bed earlier if I feel tired.

Also, we have been dining out much more than we do at home. I am finding that this change in diet is making me feel a little sluggish and tired, despite the fact that I have been able to keep up with my exercise routine. It remains to be seen whether things will get easier over the next few days as we settle in to our temporary home sweet hotel room. Despite the minor frustrations that have come from being busy with work while traveling with our little family, the very fact that I am able to pack up and take my stay at home mom – ness and both of my businesses on the road leaves me feeling thankful that I am a home based professional. The more time that passes that I have my own businesses, the more I realize the enormous amount of freedom that the choice to work from home has given me personally as well as the flexibility that it has given my family.
