When you think of spending time in New York, a number of things come to mind. For starters, there are the Broadway plays, Central Park, taking the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, and more. However, another great reason for traveling to New York is the culinary experience. Without doubt, New York offers culinary enthusiasts with everything imaginable from casual diners to elaborate five-star restaurants. Today, New York is hopping with new and exciting trends, making it a fabulous place to dine. To help you choose a restaurant for your trip to New York, I have provided some of my favorite picks.
If you want something a little upscale, you should consider L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, which is located in the Four Seasons Hotel on east 57th Street. There, dinner runs about $210 for two, which features incredible French food. House dishes include lobster gelee, cauliflower puree, and sea urchin. However, pastry-wrapped langoustine and cured pastrami are also popular choices. The nice thing about this New York restaurant is that the chef has an uncanny skill at taking common foods and creating masterpieces.
A less expensive restaurant, but one that still offers a wonderful experience is called Craft, located on east 19th Street. The cherry wood of the craftsman style table is classed and rich. The mouth-watering porterhouse steak is a great choice, as is the sturgeon that comes right out of the Columbia River. Other specialties on the menu include a roasted pasture raised baby lamb and sorrel and chanterelle risotto. Every dish is magnificently prepared and so New York.
Okay, if you want to go all out, how about spending more than $600 for dinner for two? Considering New York is costly, some people want the experience or find a restaurant such as Masa on Columbus Circle fits in the budget. Regardless, dishes like tuna belly tartare, truffles, needlefish, and sea cucumber roe are huge sellers. Keep in mind that while you pay significant money for the food, the entire experience is exceptional. Bringing the price down to around $160 for two, I also suggest visiting the Museum of Modern Art where the Modem restaurant resides. This classy restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere and talented chef. The experience is relaxing and the food exquisite without breaking the bank.
