Dinner Discussions 2008 Week 16

This week’s discussions are based on lesson sixteen in the manuals for all members twelve and older. The Primary is a week behind in the lessons. You may need to adjust your lessons according to your ward’s current schedule. You may want to incorporate an aspect of preparedness into this week’s discussions as well.

If you have a child who is nursery or Sunbeams he learned about keeping the Sabbath day holy. He learned about Heavenly Father taking a day of rest after creating the Earth. He also learned the story of manna and the Israelites. This illustrates the blessings that can come from keeping the Sabbath day holy. The lesson talked about things that they can do on Sundays.

If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about following Jesus. She learned the story of Jesus calling his apostles and telling them to follow Him. She then learned that keeping the commandments is one way that she can follow the Savior. She also learned the importance of loving others. You may talk about choices that you make each day that help you to follow the Savior.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Alma and Amulek preaching to the people of Ammoniah. The children discussed how difficult it was for them to preach to the people. They also discussed the importance of keeping the commandments. The assigned reading is Alma 8:14-20.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen the lesson focused on the importance of studying the scriptures. The lesson used the story of Lehi’s vision and compared the iron rod to the scriptures. They learned the strength that comes through studying the scriptures and obeying the concepts taught in them. They also discussed ways to improve their scripture study.

For all members over the age of fourteen the lesson focused on the conclusion of King Benjamin’s sermon. The lesson was based on Mosiah 4-6. The lesson discussed the commitments that the people made when they had their change of heart. The lesson also focused on living a Christlike life. Next week’s reading is Mosiah 7-11.

The young women learned about the temple. The young men learned about the Savior and following his example. The Priesthood and Relief Society lessons were chosen by the individual presidencies. Next week’s lesson is from the Joseph Smith manual lesson nine “Gifts of the Spirit.”
