This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson two in the manuals. Hopefully we are still on the same lesson. You may want to discuss your family goals while you eat dinner as well. You should keep these discussions positive and upbeat.
If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned that Heavenly Father has a body. They learned about the First Vision and that Heavenly Father appeared along with Jesus Christ to Joseph Smith. You may want to discuss what a blessing your body is and the ways that you should take proper care of it.
If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about following Jesus. The lesson focused on the children making the choice to do the right thing. They were encouraged to ask themselves what Jesus would want them to do in difficult situations. You may want to discuss some specific situations with your children or share a time when you had a difficult choice to make.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about the first two chapters of Nephi. The lesson emphasized that Nephi chose to listen to and obey his father Lehi. They also learned that Lehi and his family fled Jerusalem because Lehi was a prophet. The assigned reading is 1 Nephi 2.
If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about agency. The lesson emphasized that agency is a gift from Heavenly Father. The class also talked about making correct choices versus wrong choices. The lesson also discussed that there are consequences for your choices. You may want to talk a little bit more about agency at home.
For all members over the age of fourteen the lesson was on 1 Nephi 1-7. The lesson discussed Lehi’s call and his family fleeing Jerusalem. It also discussed Nephi obtaining the brass plates, as well as Ishmael’s family joining them in the wilderness. Next week’s reading assignment is 1 Nephi 8-11, 12:16-18 and 15.
The young women learned about knowing the Savior better. The young men learned about the plan of salvation. The Priesthood and Relief Society lesson was based on the first chapter in the Joseph Smith manual. It discussed the first vision. Next week’s reading assignment is chapter 2 “God the Eternal Father.”
