Disney News: The Spaceship Earth & A Green Disney

Disney World needs to clean up its act, or at least that’s what the Center for Health, Environment and Justice believes. They have launched a campaign to persuade Disney to change the type of cleaning products they use. The goal of the campaign is to encourage Disney to use their mega-watt image as a tourism industry leader and make them an environmentally responsible one.

Certified Green Cleaning Products

Disney uses non-toxic cleaners at the Animal Kingdom in order to protect the animals, but they do not use similar products at the rest of their parks. Disney believes that all their methods and products are within environmental compliance. Still, the Center for Health, Environment and Justice wants Disney to be green in all the products they use.

Likenesses of the Disney characters are used on the CHEJ website as part of their campaign. The Center hopes to encourage visitors to the parks and other consumers that enjoy Disney and their products to contact officials of the Disney Company in an effort to encourage change to their overall policies.

Spaceship Earth

In other news, there are going to be some major changes made to Epcot’s signature ride the Spaceship Earth. New scenes will be added along with changes to the narrative. There will also be an update on all of the audio scenes. There is a rumor, a rumor only, that the changes will also include new touch screens that will allow visitors to see their own envisioning of the future.

Spaceship: Earth will be closing early this summer and the planned reopening is for November just after the 25th Anniversary of Epcot. So if you are planning a vacation to Disney World this summer, be aware that you may not get a chance to visit the Spaceship: Earth, but it should be a whole new attraction come next November.

What do you think about Disney’s devotion to green products and changes to the Spaceship: Earth?
