Disney Star Demi Lovato Admits to Cutting

I know that some of us tend to enjoy the demise of Hollywood stars. That has become quite obvious considering the number of people who have actually paid money to go see the crazy antics of Charlie Sheen.

There is this fascination with seeing the famous fall and most of the time, it is not only to their detriment but it is to the detriment of others, especially impressionable teens who sometimes look up to these stars.

Whenever a teenage star or idol “falls,” I am always concerned about the negative impact it may have but in a recent interview where Disney star Demi Lovato admitted to cutting being an issue since the age of 11, I have to applaud her.

I don’t applaud her for the choices she has made but I do for the courage she had to admit this. If there is one good thing that could possibly come out of this, it’s that maybe other teens will admit they need help.

It is frightening to think that a child as young as 11 could be a cutter. I don’t understand it at any age but to be that young, well it just puts things into a different perspective. It is a wakeup call to adults that we need to be aware of the dangerous behaviors that a child of any age could participate in.

The good news is that Demi Lovato is seeking help. She has apparently had some eating disorder issues as well. Again, her admittance just might help another teen to open up.

It’s interesting to think that someone who is beautiful, famous and rich can struggle with these things. But I think that is also helpful to teens because they will hopefully realize that those things won’t make you happy. You can appear to “have it all” yet still be very miserable on the inside.

This is yet another opportunity to talk to your teen. Discussing Demi Lovato’s issues might make a powerful difference in your teen’s life.
